Communications for Nonprofit Service Organizations
A nonprofit training series to enable your organization to connect more effectively with its audiences, tell your stories, raise funds, and provide essential community support.
Overview
Nonprofit organizations that provide services and/or goods to their communities face an increasingly complex communications landscape, where the ability to effectively share their impact, advocate for their communities, and secure resources can determine their success. Movement Communications Academy provides support to nonprofit service delivery organizations by directly addressing critical communications functions. This training program will enable your organization to connect more effectively with its audiences, tell your stories, raise funds, and provide essential community support.
Timeframe and logistics
The Academy will provide four in-person training sessions over two days at an accessible facility in Portland. Potential Training Window: Two days between January 22 to 30, 2026. Training location details will be provided at a later date.
Costs
The generous donations from local foundations underwrite this training series. We request a participation fee of between $50-$250 to join the session. Fees can be waived as needed at your organization’s request.
Participants who require overnight accommodations will be provided with a travel stipend, including lodging, meals, and transportation. Refreshments and lunch will be provided daily for all participants.
How to apply
The series is open to staff from nonprofits across Oregon, especially those providing direct services to community members. Attendees do not need to be full-time communications staff—we welcome anyone interested in learning how to use communications in their role.

“Calling newsrooms was definitely not as scary as I thought, and most of the people I spoke to said something along the lines of "yeah, we have your press release in the queue, and we'll have someone call you back tomorrow. It was definitely a good lesson in the power of moving quickly to respond to current events. Really grateful for your support.”
